So how do I use it?

Note: The old URL-based method for customizing the link page has been discontinued for technical reasons!

Taking advantage of the Talisman Link Database is no big problem: Instead of building and linking to your own links page, simply set a link to the TLDB ready-made link page on your site:

links.htm

If you are satisfied with the default design then this is all you have to do! (Note: The ?caller=[id] part is rather important and explained below).

If you are using frames, you can simply show this page in a seperate frame and still have your navigation bar, site logo or whatever in another frame with nobody noticing that the link list comes not from your site but from somewhere else :-)

Customization options

The link page in its default state may look nice, but to really make it look good you probably want to customize the page a bit, so it better fits into the overall design of your site. No problem!

To be able to do this, you must register yourself in the Talisman Players List. In your personal corner you will then be able to easily set all the preferences for your link page in a nice web form.

Note: You are welcome to do your own implementation of the link page, if you need greater flexibility in the design or functionality. Please contact me at webmaster {a} talisman.c2226.de for more information about this!

The "caller" parameter

This part is rather important and must be given in any case. It tells the link page from what site it was called and enables it to exclude that site from the listing (would be a bit superfluous to have a link to ones own site on the site itself ;-) and is used to determine what preferences will be used.

The link page will refuse to show if this parameter is not given or given with an incorrect value.

So how do you know what ID to give? Simply call the page with caller=show one time and it will show all sites with their (automatically assigned) IDs. You can then pick the ID of your site and give it in the URL.
